Here’s a simple breakdown so you know exactly what each color means:

Green

Low Hazard
Calm conditions are prevalent. Beachgoers are encouraged to exercise standard caution.

Yellow

Moderate Hazard
Moderate waves and currents. Swimmers should stay in designated swimming areas.

Red

High Hazard
Strong currents, large waves. Swimming is discouraged. Beachgoers should be extremely cautious.

Double Red

Beach Closed
Extremely hazardous conditions, beach is closed to the public. Entering the water is prohibited.

Purple

Dangerous Marine Life
Potentially harmful marine creatures. Avoid swimming and be alert while near the water.

Green Flag — Low Hazard

When you see a green flag, conditions are calm and ideal for swimming.

• Minimal waves and weak currents
• Great for families and casual swimmers
• Still keep an eye on children and follow basic water safety

Yellow Flag — Moderate Hazard

A yellow flag means you’ll want to be a bit more cautious.

• Moderate waves and currents
• Swim in designated areas only
• Not ideal for inexperienced swimmers

Red Flag — High Hazard

Double Red Flag — Beach Closed

Purple Flag — Dangerous Marine Life
